- California Population: 37,303,161
- Bay Area Population: 7,200,000
- Richmond Population: 104,513
The population spike in 1950 greatly boosted Richmond's economy. Because Richmond is a coastal city, the ports along with the rest of the city were hot spots for production during wars. Due to this, the population spiked because when there are jobs, people will move to find them. The main employers in this time were the ship yards. Ships embarked for, and returned from the war in Richmond, and some naval ships still rest in the Marina. This is when Richmond greatly expanded, and along with it came lots of habitat destruction. Due to the industrialization, large parts of the city are now abandoned warehouses. There is a very scarce amount of open land, making richmond a city without very much wildlife.
